February 19, 2007 : Julie Thomas met with Kathryn Schubel from the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. The Aquarium will open an exhibit on waves, beach, surf and surfing in May, 2007. They will display one of the CDIP buoys and also display select web pages from the CDIP website. February 14-16, 2007 : Julie Thomas and David Castel attended the USGS National LIDAR Initiative meeting in Reston, VA. February 8, 2007 : Julie Thomas met with Zdenga Willis, the new Program Director for the NOAA IOOS office. Several issues were discussed concerning multi-agency collaboration. Libe Washburn on behalf of SCCOOS, Surfline and the Ventura Sanitation Department also attended the meeting. Meeting focus was centered upon discussions of UC interaction with the military and private enterprise. January 17, 2007 : Dr. Reinhard Flick and Julie Thomas gave a presentation and tour of the CDIP facility to students from Construction Tech Academy in Kearny Mesa. December 7, 2006 : Bill O'Reilly presented his lagoon-subcell hypothesis to SANDAG. In this conceptual model, the Oceanside (and other Southern California) littoral cells are divided into subcells by lagoons that interupt alongshore sand transport. November 25-December 2, 2006 : Julie Thomas and David Castel visited the Datawell Production Plant in Holland. Discussions centered around the new CDIP calibration facility. October 7, 2006 : Julie Thomas attended the SANDAG meeting. The primary focus of the meeting was a discussion of beach nourishment. Since Pendleton, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano are in Congressman Calvert's district, there is much interest in our lidar surveys covering those areas.
