
Buoy Coatings
The stainless steel hulls are sand blasted to remove old paint
before the new coatings are applied.
The top half of the buoy receives two coats of yellow Ameron 385 2
part epoxy paint followed by 2 coats of yellow Proline 4800 polyurethane.
The lower half receives 3 coats of red Amercoat 385 followed by 4 coats of ABC3.
ABC3 is a vinyl based ablative paint that uses cuprous oxide as the
antifoulant. The ablative paint is like a bar of soap, sloughing off thin
coats of paint over time. Therefore the more layers you add on the longer
the protection will last.
